Horse Riding Safety Rules

Here are a few simple horse riding safety rules. I call them rules and not tips because - well, they are rules you should follow all the time. Horses are unpredictable and accidents can happen when you least expect them.

Wear A Hard Hat. Horse riding safety requires that you wear a hard hat. Make sure that your hard hat is properly fastened with a strap.  Don't have your strap so loose that it just flops. Wearing a hard hat is a good way to ensure horse riding safety as it can prevent injuries to your head in case of a fall. Head injuries are far more serious than breaking a bone. Protect your brain - it's the only one you've got.

The second important horse riding safety measure one should take is to never get on top of a horse that you can't control. This is very important if you want to prevent accidents while riding. Some horses have high spirits that not everyone has the ability to ride. Or a young horse may just 'green'. Before riding a particular horse make sure that you are experienced enough to comfortably handle him. Don’t let your enthusiasm get the better of you in trying to ride a horse that will throw you or otherwise cause you harm.

One of more common reasons why people meet with accidents while out horse riding is that they ignore basic horse riding safety rules and race their horses on terrain that is dangerous. Slow down when the going is rough. Just like driving a car, when riding a horse - speed kills.

Another major horse riding safety lapse is failing to check the girths every so often. Horses learn to expand their chest when you first saddle them. Don't try to completely tighten it at first, just make it snug. After you've walked them out of the barn, tighten the girth before you mount. After a few minutes of warming up, tighten again while you're still on his back. You want the girth to be tight enough to keep your saddle from slipping but not so tight as restrict your horse's breathing.

Exercise caution in these simple ways and you'll ensure your horse riding safety and also enjoy your horse riding experience as well.
